The short answer

A prescription antifungal shampoo or topical that calms flaking and scalp inflammation. Not a regrowth medicine on its own; a tidy forest floor.

  • Used two or three times a week, left on the scalp a few minutes before rinsing.
  • Treats dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis; any hair effect is modest and best as a supporting player.
  • Dryness, itching, or changes in hair texture can occur.

Groundskeeping.

Ketoconazole is an antifungal that treats the yeast behind dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis, and calms scalp inflammation. A healthier scalp is a better place to grow hair, and small studies hint at a modest effect on hair density, but it is not a primary hair-loss medicine.5

How it is used.

Lather into the scalp two or three times a week, leave it on for three to five minutes, rinse. Compounded topical forms may be prescribed for men who prefer a leave-on product.5

Possible side effects

Dryness, itching, irritation, oily or dry hair, and occasionally changes in hair texture or color. Stop and call your clinician for a rash or swelling.5

Where it comes from

Compounded formulations are prepared for you individually by a licensed compounding pharmacy. They are not FDA-approved, and FDA has not verified their safety, effectiveness, or quality. Your clinician chooses the formulation and strength with you.3

Hairy questions, straight answers

Is ketoconazole FDA-approved for this use?

FDA-approved 2% shampoo; compounded topical forms are not FDA-approved.

How do I get ketoconazole through Thicket?

Reserve a $45 consult. A licensed LPMD Medical Group clinician reviews your photos and health history over secure chat and, if this medicine is appropriate for you, sends the prescription to a pharmacy near you or to a licensed pharmacy that ships discreetly to your door. A consult never guarantees a prescription.

Terms and Conditions

Effective September 12, 2026. These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and the company that operates the Thicket platform (“Thicket,” “we,” “us”). By creating an account, reserving a consult, or using this site, you accept these Terms. If you do not accept them, do not use Thicket.

1. Who does what

Thicket is a brand and a technology platform. It lets you reserve a consult, exchange secure messages, pay, and receive information. Thicket is not a medical provider, a pharmacy, or an insurer, and Thicket itself does not practice medicine.

Medical care is provided by LPMD Medical Group (LPMDMG), an independent medical practice, through clinicians licensed to treat patients in the state where you are located during your visit. LPMDMG clinicians alone decide whether to treat you, what to prescribe, and when to refer you elsewhere. A separate management services organization provides Thicket and LPMDMG with non-clinical business and administrative support. It does not influence clinical judgment.

Medication, when prescribed, is dispensed by an independent licensed pharmacy that you choose from the options presented to you. The pharmacy is responsible for dispensing, labeling, and pharmacy counseling.

2. Who can use Thicket

3. What a consult is, and is not

Your $45 payment reserves a consult with an LPMDMG clinician. The clinician reviews your intake and health history, asks follow-up questions, and decides whether treatment is appropriate. A consult is a clinical evaluation. It is not a purchase of medication, and it never guarantees a prescription.

Thicket is not an emergency service and does not replace primary care, urgent care, or specialist care. If you have a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.

4. Chat first, video where required

Visits are delivered by secure asynchronous messaging by default. Video is used when a state requires it for a particular service, or when your clinician decides that seeing you is necessary to treat you safely. If your visit requires video, you will be told before you pay. Response times depend on volume, complexity, and whether more information is needed. Your use of telehealth is also governed by the Telehealth Informed Consent, which is part of these Terms.

5. Fees and payment

6. Refunds

Refunds of the consult fee follow the Refund Policy, which is part of these Terms. In short: fully refundable before a clinician starts evaluating your case, when we determine your situation cannot safely be treated online, or when there is a billing error; partially refundable after a clinician has reviewed your history and intake and you choose not to continue; not refundable after a completed consultation, a no-show, a very late cancellation, or a completed evaluation whose plan you choose not to follow. Medication refunds are governed by the dispensing pharmacy.

7. Prescriptions, pharmacies, and shipping

8. Your account and communications

Keep your login credentials private and tell us at once if you suspect unauthorized use. You agree to receive communications about your care and your account electronically, including secure messages, email, and text messages at the number you provide. Message and data rates may apply. You can stop text messages by replying STOP; care communications may then arrive by another channel.

9. Acceptable use

Do not misrepresent your identity, location, or health; do not seek care for another person; do not attempt to obtain a prescription by deception; do not interfere with the platform, scrape it, reverse engineer it, or use it to harass clinicians or staff. We may suspend or end access for violations, for safety, or where the law requires.

10. Content and intellectual property

The Thicket name, wordmark, design, and content belong to Thicket or its licensors. Educational content on this site is general information and is not personal medical advice. You may use the site for your own personal, non-commercial purposes.

11. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The platform is provided as is. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Thicket disclaims warranties of any kind regarding the platform, and Thicket is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of it. Nothing in these Terms limits the professional responsibility of LPMDMG clinicians for the care they provide, or any right you have under law that cannot be waived.

12. Disputes

If you have a problem, contact us first and we will try to resolve it. These Terms are governed by the laws of the state in which Thicket’s operating company is organized, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where the law of your state of residence applies and cannot be waived. Complaints about clinical care may also be directed to the licensing board in your state; see State Notices.

13. Changes and contact

We may update these Terms. The effective date at the top tells you when they last changed. Continued use after a change means you accept it. Questions: support@thicket.health.

It describes how medical information about you may be used and disclosed and how you can get access to it. Please review it carefully.

Our duties

We are required by law to maintain the privacy of your protected health information, to give you this Notice, to follow its terms, and to notify you if a breach of your unsecured health information occurs. We may change this Notice; the current version is always available here and on request.

How we may use and disclose your health information

Complaints

If you believe your privacy rights have been violated, you may complain to LPMDMG at privacy@thicket.health and to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office for Civil Rights, at www.hhs.gov/ocr/complaints or 1-800-368-1019. We will not retaliate against you for filing a complaint.

Thicket · Legal

Effective September 12, 2026. Please read this Telehealth Informed Consent before you reserve. By reserving a consult and checking the consent box, you agree to receive care from LPMD Medical Group (LPMDMG) clinicians by telehealth as described here.

What telehealth means here

Telehealth is the delivery of health care using electronic communications when you and your clinician are not in the same place. Through Thicket, care is provided primarily by secure asynchronous messaging (“chat”), in which you and your clinician exchange messages that are read and answered over time rather than live. Video is used when a state requires it for a particular service or when your clinician decides that seeing you is necessary to treat you safely. You will be told before you pay if your visit requires video.

Expected benefits

Possible risks and limitations

Alternatives

You may seek care in person from your own clinician, an urgent care center, or a specialist at any time. Telehealth through Thicket is voluntary.

Hair-loss medicines: things to know before you start

Emergencies

Thicket is not for emergencies. If you have chest pain, trouble breathing, fainting, signs of a severe allergic reaction, a racing or irregular heartbeat, sudden swelling of the face or legs, a severe skin reaction, or thoughts of harming yourself, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. Do not wait for a reply to a message.

Clinician licensing and your location

Your clinician is licensed to practice in the state where you are physically located during your visit. You agree to tell us truthfully where you are, and to let us know if you are in a different state at the time of a follow-up. Your clinician’s name and license information are available on request.

Privacy and records

Your telehealth visit is documented in your medical record, which is maintained by LPMDMG and protected under applicable federal and state privacy laws. See the Notice of Privacy Practices. Visits are not recorded except for the messages and any images or video you choose to submit, which become part of your record.

Your rights

State-specific acknowledgments

If you are located in California, you acknowledge that your clinician has informed you of the use of telehealth and obtained your consent as required by California Business and Professions Code section 2290.5, and that you have been given information about how to receive follow-up care or assistance in the event of an adverse reaction or an inability to communicate as a result of technical failure. If you are located in another state with specific telehealth consent requirements, this consent is intended to satisfy them, and your clinician may ask you to confirm it again.

By checking the consent box when you reserve, you confirm that you have read this consent, that your questions have been answered, and that you agree to receive care by telehealth.
