Is my hair actually coming back?
Depends on what is still there. These medicines are best at stopping the loss and thickening hairs that have shrunk, and they can regrow some hair on the crown and mid-scalp. A hairline that has been bare for years is a harder ask; a follicle that has been dormant a long time rarely wakes up. The honest version: start earlier, keep more. You are not doomed. Be honest. Is this normal?
Painfully. Male pattern hair loss reaches about half of men by 50 and starts for plenty of them in their twenties. It is genetic and hormonal, which means it is not the hat, not the shampoo, and not something you did. Your grandfather did not get a say either, and he had opinions about everything.
What does the plan price actually get me?
Everything on the trail. Why is the longer plan cheaper?
Because it is less work for everyone. One evaluation, one plan, fewer boxes, fewer check-ins about refills. We pass that along. Twelve months of an oral plan at $20 a month costs half of what twelve separate months would, and you stop thinking about refills for a year, which is the point.
Do I have to send photos?
Yes, a few. Hairline, crown, and the top of your head in decent light. Hat off, no product, no creative angles. The photos are how your clinician sees the pattern and how you both measure progress later. Nobody grades them, and they stay between you and your clinician.
Where do you ship?
All 50 states and Washington, DC. If medication is prescribed, choose home delivery or pickup at a pharmacy near you. The visit itself happens wherever you are. The couch counts.
Is the visit chat or video?
Mostly chat: secure messaging plus your photos, on your schedule. Video is used only where a state requires it for a particular service, or where your clinician needs a live look. If your visit needs video, we tell you before you pay.
How long until I see anything?
Longer than you want. Shedding can pick up in the first month as tired hairs make way. Slowed loss shows at three months, visible thickening at six, and the full picture at a year. Take a photo the day you start. You will not believe your own memory otherwise. Boring is beautiful here: if it feels uneventful, the roots are usually doing their job.
What is shed season?
The stretch, usually in the first one to three months, when you see more hair in the drain, not less, and your brain announces that the treatment is making it worse. Dramatic? Yes. Permanent? Usually not. Minoxidil in particular pushes resting hairs out to make room for new growth. We check the trail markers before anyone throws the map away, and if something really is off, we re-route.
What happens after the prescription? Do you disappear?
No. That is the whole point of the place. The first twelve weeks are where most men quit, so that is where the check-ins land: side effects, shedding, the routine you actually keep. When something changes, the plan changes with it. When it is working, we get out of your way and keep it working. Prescribed and ghosted is not a care model, it is a drive-by.
Do I have to take this forever?
For as long as you want to keep what it protects. These medicines hold the line while you use them; stop, and the loss picks up where it left off, usually within a year. Think of it like mowing. Nobody mows once. Maintenance is not settling. It is winning quietly.
What about the side effects I read about at 2 a.m.?
Finasteride and dutasteride can cause sexual side effects, breast tenderness, and mood changes in a small minority of men, and most of those resolve after stopping. Oral minoxidil can lower blood pressure, cause swelling, and grow hair in places you did not request. Topicals mostly cause irritation. Your clinician walks you through the real numbers, and you can stop at any time. The forums are not a control group.
Finasteride or minoxidil, or both?
Different jobs. Finasteride stops the hormone that shrinks follicles. Minoxidil pushes follicles to grow. Many men use both, and compounded combinations put them in one bottle. Your clinician picks based on your pattern, your history, and how much routine you will realistically keep up.
What if I change my mind?
You are fully refunded if you cancel before a clinician starts evaluating your case or if there is a billing error. If the clinician decides medication is not appropriate for you, if we decide your situation cannot safely be treated online, or if you choose not to continue after the clinician has reviewed your case, the plan price is refunded less a $45 evaluation fee. Once medication has been dispensed by the pharmacy it cannot be returned, so that part is not refundable. The Refund Policy in the footer has the details.
Do you take insurance?
No. Thicket is cash pay: one plan price, no claims, no surprise bills, no explaining your hairline to a billing department. Keep the receipt for an HSA or FSA. If you would rather use your own coverage for a generic like finasteride, take the Trailhead route: the $45 consult on its own, with the prescription sent to your pharmacy.
Is it private?
Yes. Secure technology, and the privacy and security requirements that apply to telehealth. No waiting room, nobody at a counter squinting at your crown, no group chat. What you do with the good news is your business.
Do hats cause hair loss?
No. Neither do helmets, cold showers, or your ex. Male pattern hair loss is genetic sensitivity to DHT. The hat is innocent. Keep the hat. Just stop calling it a plan.
Is everything here FDA-approved?
No. Oral finasteride 1 mg and 5% topical minoxidil are FDA-approved for male pattern hair loss. Oral minoxidil and dutasteride are FDA-approved medicines prescribed off-label for hair. Topical finasteride, higher-strength minoxidil, and every combination are compounded by licensed compounding pharmacies and are not FDA-approved. Your clinician explains what that means for you. Is there anything you won’t prescribe?
Controlled substances, and anything for a type of hair loss that needs an in-person exam. Sudden patchy loss, scarring, or loss with pain, scaling, or other symptoms deserves a dermatologist. Your clinician will say so rather than guess.

If treatment is appropriate, your medication ships to you, or goes to your pharmacy on the Trailhead route, anywhere in the 50 states and DC.
The serious part
Good sense.
Deep roots.
Finasteride and dutasteride can cause sexual side effects, breast tenderness or enlargement, and mood changes, including depression. Tell your clinician promptly about any change in mood or thoughts of self-harm; in a crisis, call or text 988. Anyone who is or may become pregnant must not handle crushed or broken tablets, opened capsules, or topical finasteride. These medicines lower PSA; tell any clinician who screens your prostate. Do not donate blood while taking dutasteride or for six months after.
Oral minoxidil is prescribed off-label and can lower blood pressure, raise heart rate, and cause fluid retention. Call 911 for chest pain, trouble breathing, fainting, or rapid swelling. Topical minoxidil and topical finasteride can irritate the scalp and grow hair where they spread. Wash your hands after applying.
Topical finasteride, higher-strength minoxidil, and all combination products are compounded only and not FDA-approved. Oral minoxidil and dutasteride are FDA-approved medicines used off-label for hair loss. Oral finasteride 1 mg and 5% topical minoxidil are FDA-approved for male pattern hair loss.

Who provides your care
Thicket is a brand. Medical care is provided by licensed clinicians of LPMD Medical Group (LPMDMG) who are licensed to treat patients in the state where you are located during your visit. The Cura Collective, a separate management services organization, provides non-clinical support; Thicket is a Venture portfolio brand. Clinical decisions are made only by LPMDMG clinicians.
Who can use Thicket
Adults 18 and older who are physically located in one of the 50 states or the District of Columbia at the time of the visit and can consent to their own care. You agree to give accurate, complete information about your health, your history, your medications, and your photos.
Chat first. Photos always. Video where mandatory.
Visits are chat based by default: secure, asynchronous messaging plus scalp photos you upload. Video is used when a state requires it for a particular service or when your clinician needs to see you live to treat you safely. If your visit needs video, you are told before you pay.
What the plan price covers
One price, paid when you start, covers your consult with a licensed clinician and, if medication is prescribed, your medication for the plan length with standard shipping. It does not cover labs, care outside the plan, or expedited shipping. The Trailhead consult is $45 and does not include medication, which you buy from your own pharmacy. Thicket does not bill insurance.
Refunds
Fully refundable before a clinician starts evaluating your case or on a billing error. Refundable less a $45 evaluation fee if the clinician decides medication is not appropriate for you, if we decide your situation cannot safely be treated online, or if you choose not to continue after the clinician has reviewed your case. Not refundable once medication has been dispensed, after a no-show, or after a very late cancellation. Dispensed prescription medication cannot be returned.
Prescriptions
A consult never guarantees a prescription. Clinicians do not prescribe controlled substances. Finasteride and 5% minoxidil are FDA-approved for hair loss; oral minoxidil and dutasteride are prescribed off-label; topical finasteride, higher-strength minoxidil, and all combinations are compounded only and not FDA-approved.
Not for emergencies
Call 911 for chest pain, trouble breathing, fainting, a racing or irregular heartbeat, sudden swelling, a severe skin reaction, or thoughts of harming yourself. Thicket is not an emergency service or a mental health service.
Who must not handle these medicines
Anyone who is or may become pregnant must not handle crushed or broken finasteride or dutasteride, opened capsules, or topical finasteride. Keep all medicines away from children and pets.
Privacy
We use secure technology and follow the privacy and security requirements that apply to telehealth. Your photos and health information are used to provide your care and run the service, and shared only as needed for that purpose or as the law requires.
